Join Joe Cernac as we observe, heads bowed to the ground, this flora-rich area. Red Hills is a foothill sierran serpentine region in Tuolumne County, about a two-hour drive from the Bay Area. We will walk two sections, observing what we hope will be early blooming flowers in the shoulder season. Rare serpentine endemic tripod buckwheat (Eriogonum tripodum), Red Hills soap plant (Chlorogalum grandiflorum) and the rare Rawhide Hill onion (Allium tuolumnense) are present. Hopefully bitterroot will be in bloom.
Please bring lunch, snacks and plenty of water. Heavy rain cancels.
Directions: We will meet at the Red Hills Parking Area at 9:30am. There is a bathroom at the parking lot. Email Joe Cernac at This email address is being protected from spambots.
