The 42nd annual Wildflower Show will be held at West Valley College on Saturday, April 23 from 10 AM to 4 PM. The show will feature the plant biodiversity of Santa Clara, San Mateo, and surrounding counties. The event coincides with the most prolific bloom of Northern California wildflowers in years and will feature hundreds of species of wildflowers and native plants. Picked the day before by permitted volunteers, each specimen will be labeled and organized by family and genus. Expert botanists and gardeners will be on site to describe different samples and answer questions.
Workshops on wildflower identification and photography, choosing native plants for local gardens, and where to see wildflowers, will be provided. Activities for children will be available as well. Tours of Vasona Creek, which runs through the middle of the West Valley campus, will provide info on the ongoing college creek restoration project, which features plantings of native, drought tolerant plants; removal of invasive plant species; restored riparian habitats; and storm water management.
The WVC Biology Department, cohost of the event, will also showcase their newly created biology classroom wall murals, the newly refurbished green house, and the future Science Garden.
The West Valley College campus is located at 14000 Fruitvale Ave., Saratoga, CA 95070. The show will be located in the Biology wing of the Science and Math buildings, which parallels Allendale Avenue. Free parking in lot 2 during the event.
