SUMMARY:Cutting and Seed Exchange + Plant Sale Pickup
LOCATION:Peninsula Conservation Center (PCC)\, 3921 E. Bayshore Road in Palo Alto
DESCRIPTION:Why is this event name different this time? Propagation is a year-round act
ivity, and as we move into summer, propagation of native plants shifts to s
tarting new plants from cuttings rather than seeds. You’re still welcome to
bring seeds to exchange, but we encourage folks to bring cuttings too. Joi
n us on Saturday, May 18 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Peninsula Conservatio
n Center (PCC), 3921 E. Bayshore Road in Palo Alto.\nThis free event provid
es an opportunity to share and receive both cuttings and seeds of native pl
ants. Browse the diverse offerings, ranging from easy-to-grow to hard-to- f
ind, and go home with cuttings and seeds of new native plants! We will prov
ide coin envelopes for seeds but bring containers in which to carry cutting
s home.\nIf you have native plant material from your own garden to share, w
e encourage you to bring it. Label your cuttings to make them easy to brows
e – some gardeners attach helpful hints about growing; others display photo
s of plants in bloom. You may find it convenient to use www.calscape.org (h
ttps://www.calscape.org) for this – there is a link on each plant’s informa
tion page to make a printable sign for most native species and cultivars.\n
If you bring cuttings, keep them cool and moist in a bucket of water. Don’t
have native plant material to share? No problem, as there is usually enoug
h for all.\nSeveral popular gardening books will be available for sale duri
ng the event, including Seed Propagation of Native California Plants (2021
ed.), by Dara E. Emery; California Native Plants for the Garden by Carol Bo
rnstein, David Fross, and Bart O’Brien; and California Native Gardening, A
Month-by-Month Guide, by Helen Popper.\nOur Wildflower Ambassadors will be
giving out free seed packets and information as well.\nLimited Online Plant
Sale\nThere will be an online plant sale at california-native-plant- socie
 ty-santa-clara-valley-chapter.square.site (california-native-plant-%20socie
ty-santa-clara-valley-chapter.square.site), starting on Sunday, May 12. The
store will close when we reach our pickup capacity. In addition to plants,
the nursery’s online store includes Chapter T-shirts, books, labels and pl
ant signs.\nOrders from this sale will only be available for pickup before
and during our Seed Exchange at the Peninsula Conservation Center on Saturd
ay, May 18. We will not have nursery pickup or delivery, and there is a min
imum order of $40.\nCall for Volunteers\nWe need help with setup, answering
questions and cleanup.\nThe tasks don’t require expert knowledge of plants
, and the shifts are set up to spend time at the event in addition to volun
teering. You can sign up here: www.cnps- scv.org/seed-cutting-help (https:/
 /www.cnps-%20scv.org/seed-cutting-help).\nDirections to the PCC: (3921 E. B
ayshore Road, Palo Alto) From Hwy. 101 take the San Antonio Rd. exit and he
ad north. Take the next left onto East Bayshore, which will curve left then
right. Take the first right onto Corporation Way, and an immediate left in
