SUMMARY:Meadow Marvels: Sensitive Habitats and How to Protect Them, a talk by Tyler Feld
LOCATION:Saratoga Library Program Room\, 13650 Saratoga Ave.\, Saratoga
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the necessity and benefits of habitat restoration in our local
open spaces! Seasonally wet meadows provide significant ecological benefit.
However many of these ecosystems have disappeared over the last 150 years
due to development, agriculture and the introductions of invasive species.
At Bear Creek Redwoods, Grassroots Ecology has been working to restore one
of these habitats.\nThis talk will describe the successes, challenges and s
tories of groups protecting these lands. We hope those who attend will leav
e inspired and empowered to restore biodiversity near and far!\nTyler Feld’
s love of the outdoors began from early childhood experiences exploring the
oak woodlands of Southern California and the pine forests of the Sierra Ne
vada. As a teenager with a career goal to “protect the trees,” he pursued a
B.A. in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Cruz. Following his degree, Ty
ler spent five years teaching and directing overnight outdoor education pro
grams throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Sierra Nevada to share hi
s love of the outdoors with youth. His continued love of ecology and stewar
dship led him to his current role as project manager with Grassroots Ecolog
y starting in 2021. Tyler guides hands-on habitat restoration experiences a
nd inclusive environmental education programs across the Santa Cruz Mountai
 ns.\n
